Hiraeth
Photo series & Installation co-created with Kennedy Center Arts Leadership Award Winner Veshonte Brown
Hiraeth is a welsh concept of longing for home, with no direct translation in English. Veshonte Brown’s thesis installation portrays three narrative triptychs exploring the modern black experience in the deep south. Brown, a young black artist raised in Mississippi, conceived the project as both a love letter and a long goodbye in her personal journey as an artist, and enlisted Joseph as a collaborator to bring the pieces to life visually.
The project was shot in Alabama, and exhibited in the International Arts Center at Troy University in April 2019, accompanied by a sound design installation composed by Brown.
